Community
Rally for Super 14 for Perth
Perth
people are asked to turn out in force at 11am this Sunday to a community
rally at Subiaco Oval in support of Rugby WA 's bid for the 4th
Australian team to enter the expanded competition in 2006.
Sports
Minister, the Hon. Bob Kucera, will address the crowd and will reiterate
the state government's commitment to invest $25-million to upgrade
Members Equity Stadium to accommodate the home games of the Perth
based team.
Local
singing sensation, Cosima, has interrupted her eastern states promotional
tour for her new album to fly to Perth to perform at the rally.
She will sing the rugby "anthem" Waltzing Matilda, accompanied by
Filthy Bill guitarist Damian Ward and will also sing three songs
from her new album.
Pretzel
Logic has developed a new website to support the movement. Launched
on Thursday, the site has an online petition on which supporters
of the bid are asked to leave their names and a message of support.
www.super14forperth.westaust.com
is the address.
The
rally crowd will be organised into a sign (similar to the logo at
the top) which will be videotaped and photographed from the Channel
7 helicopter. The photo and tape will be provided to Rugby WA for
inclusion in the bid.
The
community push was initiated by two local women, Jennifer Hoskins
and Irma Cooper, whose sons play junior Rugby at Nedlands. They
enlisted the support of Nedlands coach, Chris Howlett, and a full
scale movement was born!
A
door prize of a trip to Broome flying Skywest with accommodation
at Seashells Resort will be drawn on the day.
